I am a 26 man suffering recently (last couple years) with low sex drive, weak and infrequent erections, and unstable testosterone levels (vary from low- highest 630) I have been to urologists and even male sexual dysfunction specialists and neither can pin-point exactly what is causing my symptoms. I haven’t been prescribed any medication such as trt and have been trying to help myself with herbs such as zinc and l-argenine, but havent noticed any change. I think i may be suffering from long term severe sexual exhaustion. It started two years ago when i broke up with a girlfriend i had been heavily involved (emotionally and physically) with for seven years. After the break up I found it difficult to cope emotionally, especially when i felt sexual urges and could not fulfill them with her. So i began a bad and long term habit of over-indulging in sexual encounters and excessive masturbation, in an effort to subdue my sexual urges. At the time i would often mix the habit with alcohol and/or marijuana. In the back of my mind I thought it would be easier for me to get over the break-up if i literally drained my body until my libido was low. It worked to say the least, except I didn’t realize what kind of damage i was doing to myself and after about a year of this behavior, i lost my sex drive fear i have permanently ruined my libido and erection strength. I read your article and found it very interesting and somewhat confusing, (i have very little education, especially anything to do with science or chemicals.) Can you please tell me if there are any tests i should be requesting a doctor and/or psychologist to do on me? (serotonine level, etc)Is there anything i can do by myself to resolve this problem, like sexual abstinence, or would that make matters worse (use it or loose it theory)? i don’t feel most of the other symptoms of depression, and have heard that anti-depressants can lead to sexual problems such as low drive. Basically i just wanted to get an opinion as to exactly what you think i may have done to myself and is there any hopes of recovery. Thanks for the time.

ANSWER
I’m sorry to hear about your problems, especially since they could have been avoided with little information on the matter.

Yes – certainly, sexual exhaustion is the most probable cause for the symptoms you are describing.
The low sex drive, weak erections, lack of morning erections and low testosterone are indicative of a faulty working hypothalamic-pituitary-testicular axis. Excessive dopamine-norepinephrine-epinephrine conversions, excessive androgens burning and testosterone-dht conversions, excessive neurostransmitters burning, and excessive inflammatory response are all common of over-active sexual activities. The processes will eventually lock in an ill inflammatory cycle and alter ones neuroplasticity from a positive to a negative one, thus sustaining the condition indefinitely if not addressed properly.

Just a random set of supplements, in this case zing and L-arginine won’t be enough to break the cycle.

Blood tests are usually inconclusive and have to be performed numerous times. However, it should be relatively easy and you may consider testing your prolactin, estradiol, free and total testosterone, DHEA, cortisol, TSH, T3 Free (FT3), T4 Free (FT4), Glucose, Protein, Albumin, Globulin, AST (SGOT), ALT (SGPT), Bilirubin, Triglycerides, Phosphorus, Calcium, Creatinine, HDL, and Glycohemoglobin.

A complete recovery is usually very possible.
There are numerous things that have to be done in order to restore proper health:
– Sexual activities discontinuation for 1 to 3 months.
– A combination of Alpha-Amino, Multi-Alpha, Alpha-AGH, GRB6-GABA, Zeolite-DA, and Ultra-Purified-FishOil to better nervous and endocrine functioning, stabilize acetylcholine, serotonin, dopamine, GABA levels, detoxify the overburdened liver and better P450 system, modulate inflammatory response, better hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal-testicular functioning, increase androgens, jump start the CNS, increase prostaglandin E1 E3 and Nitric Oxide production, alter numerous gene expressions, and restore a positive neuroplasticity.
-Additionally increase androgens by utilizing numerous solutions.
-Positive ion exposure, exercise program, positive attitude, massages, meditation, yoga may aid the recovery process.
Glad if I could help!
