This is just to see what you guys may think.  In my experience, there has been a wide variety of accepted answer to this question.  I have heard anything from multiple times daily to only a couple times per week.  Is there a point when excessive masturbation becomes unhealthy?  If so, what is this point?  On the other hand, should masturbation be done at all?

I’m not sure that there is any such thing as “normal”. Everyone is different and it is more useful to look at what is normal for ourselves. I would say it’s not normal to let it interfere with your health (physical or mental) or your relationships and social life. If it doesn’t, and you don’t feel guilty then there’s no problem really. Average for some people might be once a week whilst it could be once a day for others.

lerxst has provided a good answer. A general rule of thumb is not to let it get in the way (of your responsibilities, family/recreational time and most of all your health).

Normal would mean you’re not addicted to it. You do the act but you don’t become too dependent on it. If you’re not doing it, you can still carry on with your regular, day-to-day life. Try doing it weekly or better yet on a monthly basis and check whether you still have your self-control about you.

I agree with the definition that everyone puts. I think by normal, it means you put it under other priorities in your life. On top of that, even if you are bored and have nothing else to do (for example during school breaks as), I think it is considered normal if you do it in a way that it doesn’t interfere with your health. If you do it until nothing comes out or if you do it until it feels sore then I think it is not normal. Even if the frequency is less than that, if you cannot resist the urge despite knowing that doing it at that time might not be a good idea (such as a day before a big sports event or the day when you don’t get enough sleep), then it can also be considered abnormal.

Someone once told me that doing it twice a month was normal, I kind of looked at them and was like “I am single, I am in my thirties, I am at my prime.” Lol there is no way that I am gonna do it twice a month, I would probably pull out my hair inbetween times. There really is no normal way. Unless you are doing it like fifty times a day, you should just do it when you feel you need it.

I don’t see a “normal” amount, rather what is more “abnormal”. That is, if you are doing it consistently a few times a day then I would have a bit of a question about that. Admittedly, general circumstance would have an impact. But if it becomes a comfortable default that replaces having sex then I think it’s more of an issue. Different strokes for different folks though.

Everyone has different needs and as an individual I think you should know your body and its limits, so therefore the normal amount of masturbation depends on the individual.

Beware though. If you go over your limit you risk entering the zone of sexual exhaustion.
