I was present at an orchidectomy the other day and thought you guys might find it interesting.. (I’m a medical student)

That’s how it basically looks. Its an operation where your testosterone parts of the testicles are removed. It is normally done to patients who have advanced prostate cancers because the testosterone from the testicles makes the cancer grow,

Surgically looking its a pretty simple surgery :)

Great resource, man! Thanks for sharing. I must admit it does not look as bad as it sounds and it really resembles the varicoceletomy operations I’ve seen. Why would anybody want to remove the testosterone parts of the testicles is completely another matter, tho.

Basically testosterone as a hormone causes prostate cancers to grow and if the cancer is beyond surgical repair it is considered palliative surgery. It is done to stop the tumor from growing and give the patient more time.

What I’m more concerned about is the post-surgery effects. What is going to happen to the man that has to do the surgery. What are the negative effects of having the parts removed? I’m getting an impotent vibe here.

Impotency is impossible to avoid in this case. Luckily prostate cancer happens to men above 60 years in 99% of the cases. Most of the patients who go through this kind of procedure do it for their life quality. The tumor grows less and if it is malignant they have more time to live basically.

I see these surgeries all the time at work; or I used to. Sometimes they removal the entire testicle if the patient has cancer in that area.
