I have been suffering with prostatitis for the last 4 months. My symptoms include urinary frequency, pelvic pains, burning/pain with urination and an inflamed prostate. I believe my symptoms have been brought on by sexual exhaustion through excessive masturbation. It was during a period of excessive masturbation that I first noticed painful ejaculation and lower abdominal pains but i still continued with my activities. I have stopped all sexual activity for the last 6 weeks and have experienced some improvement in my symptoms. However during this time I have had wet dreams which seem to happen every 3 weeks, following these wet dreams my symptoms seem to return with full force and its like I have to start all over again. Also, after abstaining from ejaculating for a few weeks my prostate seems to become larger and more swollen with fluid which tends to exacerbate my symptoms as well. What is happening to me, what I can do to get better and maybe how I can avoid these wet dreams which seem to be retarding my progress?

Now the wet dreams are usually normal after such a period of abstinence. The organism has to balance itself.

I’d suggest to just diminish the frequency of masturbation, quitting cold turkey may not be that great of an idea. And I’m not sure this is a way to treat prostatitis, too.

Definitely sounds like a chronic prostatitis. These are difficult to get rid off because they are cause by unknown causes for the most part. Could be bacteria breach from the bladder for instance, could be inflammation, could be sexual exhaustion related inflammation and prostate abrasion. Diminishing the sexual gratification part is usually a good idea although it is not really supported by most of the physicians out there. If anything they will make you masturbate even more to “clear the prostate out”.. such nonsense.

I can definitely relate to the “enlarged feeling in the prostate” part after stopping masturbation. I didn’t have prostatitis so this seems to be unrelated to the condition but related to the abstinence.

Abstaining from ejaculating can increase the prostate fluid and the fluids will irritate your prostate which will make the condition worse. It’s normal to have wet dreams and so does masturbation. But you need to stop frequent masturbation since it will aggravate the symptoms. It’s ok to ejaculate 1 to 2 times a week. Have you take any medication to manage your condition? I know a herbal medicine called diuretic and anti-inflammatory pill is effective in treating chronic epididymitis. Maybe you can give it a try.
